In the June 2000, an exhibition of contemporary Dutch graphic design was opened at the Biennale of Graphic Design in Brno, Czech republic. The exhibition organised and curated by Peter Bilak presented work of 27 designers. The concept of the exhibition understood graphic design as a part of social development and the creative process, reflecting the system of the actual relationship between the commissioner, the public and the designer. It was the intention of the show to note the most characteristic directions taken in the development of graphic design in Holland, without allowing any particular style to predominate.
The exhibition focused on a group of designers who began their careers in the 1990s. Their work was showcased against the background of work done by the older Dutch designers who have had a profound influence on the Dutch design scene.
